Senior Financial Modeling Engineer (Consultancy Focus)

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Financial Modeling Engineer that will work in a hybrid consultancy capacity, designing, building, and maintaining financial models for multiple clients across various industries. These models will be pivotal in supporting clients' capital-raising efforts and strategic decision-making. Experience in FP&A roles is highly valued, as this position requires a strong understanding of operational drivers, financial forecasting, and budget management. The ideal candidate will have experience designing models from scratch, conducting Monte Carlo simulations, and tailoring solutions to meet diverse business requirements. While the hybrid role is based in Raleigh, NC, remote work may be considered for outstanding candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Design and Development: Create and maintain bespoke financial models, including operating, forecasting, and valuation models tailored to client specific needs.
- Capital-Raising Support: Develop investor-ready financial projections, cash flow analyses, and other models to support fundraising efforts.
- Strategic Decision Support: Provide actionable insights through scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and advanced simulations to assist clients in strategic decision-making.
- Monte Carlo Simulations: Incorporate advanced risk and uncertainty modeling using tools like @Risk or Crystal Ball.
- FP&A Integration:Leverage FP&A expertise to align client financial models with operational goals, budgets, and forecasts.
- Client Collaboration: Work closely with client teams to gather business requirements, understand key drivers, and ensure models meet their strategic objectives
- Model Maintenance: Regularly update and refine client models to reflect changes in business conditions or financial strategies.
- Reporting and Presentations: Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports to effectively communicate model outcomes and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of model structures, assumptions, and methodologies for client transparency and internal consistency.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
Experience
- 4–6 years of experience in financial modeling, preferably in a consultancy or client-facing role.
- FP&A experience is a strong plus, particularly in operational modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proven track record of creating and maintaining financial models to support capital-raising and strategic initiatives.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including VBA for model automation.
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulation tools such as @Risk or Crystal Ball.
- Programming experience in Python, R, or MATLAB for data manipulation and advanced modeling are a plus.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Familiarity with SQL for database integration.
Financial Expertise
- Strong understanding of financial statements, capital markets, operational metrics.
- Experience in valuation modeling, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
Certifications
- Highly Preferred: Master Financial Modeler (MFM).
- Other relevant certifications, such as Charted Financial Modeler (CFM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA), are advantageous.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and client-facing presentation skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple client projects effectively and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience consulting across diverse industries, such as SaaS, manufacturing, or financial services.
- Familiarity with fundraising processes, including venture capital and private equity.
- Exposure to advanced analytics techniques such as stochastic modeling or optimization.
Compensation
Base Salary Range
$110,000 – $140,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Additional Compensation
Up to 20% of base salary as annual performance-based bonuses, client success incentives, and equity grants for well qualified candidates.
